Northumberland & Durham Family History Society |
Our meetings form an integral part of our Society life style, they are held on a monthly, friendly and informal basis from September to June in Belford, Blyth, Choppington, Gateshead, Hexham, London, Newcastle, South Shields and Sunderland. These meetings provide extensive help to our members and include such features as guest speakers, projects, educational demonstrations, workshops, discussions, social events and other activities. Members are welcome to attend any or all of these events.
The Society now has its own Library and Research Centre at Bolbec Hall, Westgate Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Here members will find a wealth of information comprising of family histories, pedigrees, monumental inscriptions, microfiche, microfilms, marriage indexes and much more. Recent acquisitions include the LDS microfiche of the 1881 Census for England and Wales and the microfiche of the Old Parish Registers of Scotland. All of the Society's publications are also available.
The library is complemented by our own bookshop, which has a wide range of reference books, specialised Society Publications, magazines, charts and numerous other works of interest to the family historian.
While car parking is available not too far from Bolbec Hall, visitors will probably find it more convenient to use public transport. We are located close to Newcastle Central Station which serves both main line and local Metro services, and there are bus services from most parts of the North East which connect with the Metro system.
The Library and Postal Library Catalogues are available on microfiche - see the Sales page.

NDFHS Library & Research Centre |
It is advisable to book microfiche and microfilm readers in advance by telephoning the above number.
Occasionally visitors may find the outside door of Bolbec Hall locked for security reasons during library opening hours. In this event just press the bell-push labelled NDFHS and a staff member will admit you. (Please be patient; this may take a few minutes).

We also operate an exchange journal system with other Family History Societies, both in this country and throughout the world. These are often very useful in providing valuable information to aid you in your research, wherever it may take you and these journals are available, on loan, to members.
The Society is a charity which is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
It is administered by volunteers and some of these must also act as Trustees of the Society. The names of the current Trustees appear on the extract of the public register.
The full details for the Society are a part of the public register and can also be accessed online.
As a charity the Society is required to send an Annual Return, and also produce an Annual Report, to the Charity Commission. These can be read online at the Accounts Listing page together with the accounts for the years since 2003.
The Annual Return for 2006 has been sent to the Commission and this remains to be added to the public entry for the Society. A copy of the Annual Report is held by the Librarian at Bolbec Hall.
