Chapman codes

 

These are a list of three letter codes useful for specifying countries and counties (all within UK and Ireland).

Palaeography – a practical on-line tutorial

 

Available from the National Archives. Palaeography is the study of old handwriting. This web tutorial will help you learn to read the handwriting found in documents written in English between 1500 and 1800. They have a similar course in Latin.

The University of Strathclyde is offering a FREE on-line genealogy course
which may be useful to someone just beginning their research or for anyone
