Probate Calendar Search
RESEARCH TO BE DONE
The cost is £2 for a search in five years of the Probate Calendar. The Calendar is the printed list of probate and admonitions granted for the period 1858-1966. The printed details show the name of the deceased; date of death; place of death; usual residence; name of executor; and value of estate. It does NOT include the will.
The search results will be converted to a digital file and emailed to you; this will usually be a scanned image (.jpg). Where there is more than result we will normally email you requesting further details. In the case of an unsuccessful search the search fee will not be returned.
Notes:
- The Calendar is a national index so we are able to search in any part of England and Wales.
- The exact person to be searched must be specified with a date and a location.
- For females the surname MUST be the name at death; usually the married name.
- Please add additional relevant information, but please keep this as brief as possible.
- We cannot provide copies of wills. Wills can be ordered by post from The Postal Searches and Copies Department, Leeds District Probate Registry, York House, York Place, Leeds. LS1 2BA The order form can be downloaded from http://www.justice.gov.uk/courts/probate. Or you can order in person at the Principal Probate Registry or at other registries and sub-registries.
Example request: Robert DIXON present in 1861 census at Quarrington, County Durham. Not present in 1871. Coal miner.
Result: [Three matches – 1861, 1862, and 1865 (of which the last turned out to be the correct one).]
